The project was led by the experimental leafed shaped pavilion from Stockholm studio, Jägnefält Milton, that and the desire to create something more discrete then the original brief asked for.

Sat opposite a wide cricket green, next to two churches, with the closest being half the size of the furthest, and a two-level car park, height contextually was significant.

Thus going below ground level became a viable and necessary option, further, it opened up the initial building, allowing a conversation to occur between the two halves. A building of two parts; skeletal and lightweight above, heavy and of the earth within the basement, with each half paying attention to the others structural language and working with it.

Materiality and its impact on light was the next focus, as the site sits in a shaded position, with all access and viewpoints north and north-east. Yet it is hoped that the building would sit comfortably, embracing the lighter tones, becoming a low lit, softer thing for it.

Light is not all the building plays with; the structure is what it is born from. Spaces are formed and played with by the structure, the building is made clear and honest, open to conversation with its people by the freeing and interactive nature of the structure.
